Here Are Top Causes Of Crashes

There is no single national database of the causes or contributing factors for large truck crashes. In separate reports, the overall Accounting Office and the Department of Transportation’s Inspector General have established that lack of data on what causes crashes hampers the government’s ability to effectively address truck safety issues.

AAA has testified before Congress on the need for better data on car/truck crashes which functions as the foundation for effective traffic safety solutions.

AAA called for a study to identify the sources of truck crashes, emphasizing the requirement to invest in building data systems to gather and analyze the factors that bring about truck crashes and the injuries they produce. AAA worked with the Senate and House Appropriations Committees to fund an initial study that was contained in the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act passed in 1999.
